In Italy and throughout Europe, regulations require both vertical and horizontal structures to meet established fire performance standards. European Standard UNI EN 13501-1, which has progressively replaced the traditional Italian classification system (Classes 0, 1, 2, etc.), establishes rigorous criteria based on combustibility, smoke production (classified as s), and the formation of flaming droplets or particles (classified as d).
In most major exhibition venues, regulations require materials classified at least as Class 1 (or B-s1, d0). It is the responsibility of the booth contractor to provide and submit official certificates issued by accredited testing laboratories for every material used, together with installation compliance declarations.
Suspended Structures, Rigging Loads, and Structural Stability
For large exhibition stands, suspended structures such as aluminum trusses, lighting grids, overhead portals, and hanging graphic elements are commonly used to increase visibility across exhibition halls. However, any element suspended above ground introduces safety risks if not properly engineered and installed.

It is important to understand that, in relation to exhibition organizers and regulatory authorities, including Fire Departments, Health and Safety Authorities, and venue inspectors, the exhibiting company shares responsibility for compliance with the Exhibition Technical Regulations.
