The Bologna Fair is the exhibition center of the city and the metropolitan area of Bologna. The history of the Bologna Fair starts from the 19th century, hosting the Great Emilian Exhibition in 1888, inaugurated by Umberto I with his wife Margherita of Savoy and by the Prime Minister Francesco Crispi.
In the 1950s came the will to build a real headquarters for the Fair; a competition was announced in this regard, won by the architects Leonardo Benevolo, Tommaso Gura Longo and Carlo Melograni. The works began in 1964 with the laying of the first stone; in 1965 the first block hosted, for the first time in a fixed location, pavilions 21, 22, 25, 26, 31, 32 are part of this historical nucleus.

Today the Bologna Fair is an advanced exhibition center, with a total area of 375,000 square meters, including covered and external areas, and the total area of services is 36,000 square meters. It has 18 pavilions and 5 independent entrances. On a logistical level, the Bologna Fair has 14,500 covered parking spaces, a dedicated motorway toll booth to guarantee direct entry to the fair, avoiding the ring road, a heliport and a train stop.
